Cohune Leaves

Cohune leaves are commonly used for houses and this is very popular with the Mayan people of Belize. Other ethnic groups would use them to make oils, medicine etc… The mayas have always been using cohune leaves for centuries for the roof of their houses, also known as the Tatch house. Before the cement came the Mayas were using these to protect them from the rain and giving them somewhere to sleep at night. The Mayas use these leaves to make their roof, today there are still tatch houses being built by the Mayas. They do not use cement because they say it is very hot, while the tatch roof is always cool and also affordable so they do not have to spend a lot of money while they build their houses.
