Slate carving is an art practiced by the Mayan people of Belize. I am proud to say that the first people who started these carvings were my Mother Mrs. Aurora Saqui, and her five sisters. The found the slates while they were helping my grandfather in the farm and they took and started to carve pictures on it but my grandfather saw that as a waste of time and that they would not profit from it. My mother and her sisters started to sell it to the people and they were a success, other people from other communities were reaching out to them so that they too could learn this art and that is how today in most of the villages that you would go you would see these art.
